5 Important Typography Tricks and Tips You Shouldn't Miss

Typography Tricks is more than just making text look beautiful. It also has to be able to deliver the message accurately and to the right target audience.

Typography is a great way to communicate a message, not only in terms of writing but also in terms of design itself. Having beautifully designed writings or typography will enhance the visual layouts of your overall design and impact on user experience. That is why it is important to create appropriate typography in your design projects.

Creating stunning typography can take a lot of time, especially if you are new to this. However, you don’t need to worry since we are going to discuss five important typography tricks that will bring your design to a new level.  Here are the tips and tricks that you shouldn’t miss.

1. Think about the context and your audience

In typography tricks, you should consider how a font may look when used in your design. It is also important to consider the context of the content as well as the target audience. That is because different fonts have their own mood, which will impact the overall mood of the design.

Learn the goal of the design and the target audience’s preference. By understanding these aspects, you will be able to choose what kind of fonts are suitable for your design. For example, you don’t want to use a silly or fun font type for a formal and serious business purpose. This may cause the company to look not too trustworthy and will not attract potential audiences well.

2. Use typographic hierarchy

Another important typography trick is to use hierarchy to make your design well organized and easy to navigate. Visual hierarchy allows the audience to read the content more clearly, making your design pleasant to look at.

In the typographic hierarchy, the content can be divided into different sections. They are the headings, subheadings, body copy, captions, and a lot more. In addition to putting information in different sections, a typographic hierarchy can also be implemented by adding differences in each section, such as different sizes, widths, font color, etc.

3. Minimalism is a great approach

We understand that you may want to incorporate plenty of beautiful decorative elements and font styles into your design. However, using too many of them will end up distracting and make your design lack the appropriate mood that you might strive for.

The recommended amount of fonts are within two or three types for the same layout. This way, your design will not lose the balance between the design elements and the message it conveys.

Don’t add unnecessary details that may be distracting to your design. While you can use different styles such as bold or italic to emphasize some important parts, overuse them will only make your design look messy.

4. Take into account the mobile typography tricks

Today, a lot of designs are integrated into the mobile device, which also causes a smaller and more compact space or layout. That is why it is important to experiment and pay deeper attention to mobile typography

Due to its small space, mobile typography tricks offers new and probably more difficult challenges for designers. It is harder to create legible typography for a mobile device due to the tiny screens. Choosing too small fonts will be difficult to read and look messy, while too big will be difficult to fit the screen.

Additionally, you have to consider the contrast level since mobile devices tend to be carried around a lot and probably exposed to a lot of light. High contrast fonts can hurt the reader’s eyes when reading them indoors, while low contrast fonts may be difficult to read outdoors.

5. The importance of white space

Empty space is a good element in typography tricks because it can impact the legibility level. This so-called white space is an important part of design composition. It is an empty area between elements that will make your design look clearer. In typography, you will be familiar with kerning, tracking, and leading—the white space between the elements in typography tricks.

The white space should be placed appropriately to provide readers with visual relief and make them read the text more easily.

These are only a few typography tricks that will help you design more effectively and efficiently. Of course, there are many things that you can do to make designing easier. The key is to experiment a lot. With a lot of practice, you will bring your designing game to a whole new level.
